Be AWESONE!
Despite the stress each day holds in store for each of us, stay positive. Being awesome comes from without ourselves. It is a gift of God’s Holy Spirit which indwells each believer in Christ. In Galatians 5:22-23 Paul lists nine of these gifts. I like to think of them as if they are fruit growing on a vine, maturing and ripening in each of us.
Love – is the Greek word agape. It is an attitude of kindness and goodwill toward others.
Joy – is an attitude of calm, delight, gladness. Joy is a sense of inner peace. It is the exultation that arises from a sense of God’s mercy in the pardon of its iniquities
Peace – an attitude of tranquility in oneself, with others, and with God.
Longsuffering – the attitude of tolerance, patience, forbearance. Granting second, third, and sometimes unlimited chances to others.
Gentleness – an attitude of civility, courteous, mild-mannered. Doing right, being morally excellent. In our society, we think of morality in terms of sexual behavior. However, the true meaning is to be upright in our dealings with others.
Goodness – is an attitude of kindness and charity that is not judgmental, but helpful.
Faith – the attitude of unconditional love of God and Christ. Complete trust in God to finish His good work in each cooperating individual.
Meekness – an attitude of humility and humbleness as opposed to pride, arrogance, or aggressiveness. Meekness is not weakness or submissiveness. It is strength of character and courage to stand strong without being hostile or belligerent or going into a rage.
Self-control (temperance) – an attitude of restraint, self-discipline. It is derived from the Greek en and kratoV, meaning strength; and has reference to the power or ascendancy which we have over exciting and evil passions of all kinds.
Look at our politicians. Look at the Middle east. Watch the evening news.
We see each day in the news and in our associations, even in the drivers on the road that the people who do not know our God are in a rage over everything – climate change, global warming, critical race theory, mask mandates, vaccinations, pollution, violence, and on and on. Society worldwide is filled with immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and other such things.
Let’s strive to be a light in a darkening world.
