The Origin of Disease

READ THE BOOK

God’s original creation was perfect!  And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. (Genesis 1:31)

There was no disease, no illness, no deformities.  What went wrong? Where did all the diseases and abnormalities come from?

Wikipedia lists 249 rows of human plagues/epidemics in the linked chart – This is a list of the larges known epidemics and pandemics caused by an infectious … (wikipedia).  Where do they come from and why?

An episode in the Science Channel series How the Universe Works discusses solar and cosmic particles (radiation), their origins, and their effect on life on Earth.  The cosmic particles come into our solar system from deep space.  Because of their extreme velocity and the tremendous energy they carry, it is believed they are generated by deep space super black holes.  They travel at nearly the speed of light.

Astronauts on the moon expeditions reported seeing flashes of blue light.  Scientists discovered that these flashes of light are caused by cosmic particles damaging light sensors as they passed through the eyes of the astronauts.  In fact, the shields on their helmets show tracks of the cosmic particles passing through them.  When a particle passes through horizontal to the shield, it leaves a particularly long track (and of course, perpendicular encounters leave short tracks through the shields).

More concerning, it has been recently discovered that a super highspeed particle passing through a human body will cut through any DNA molecules it encounters.  The particles pass through the DNA like a knife, cutting it into pieces.  Likewise, exposure to solar radiation also damages genes and DNA in living creatures hear on Earth, accounting for many diseases and disorders – many of which are passed down from generation to generation.

At creation, God provided protection for us from solar and cosmic radiation.  When He formed the earth,

  • “ . . . God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so” (Genesis 1:6-7).

There are many theories to the nature of the firmament.  Dr. Carl Baugh (founder of the Creation Evidence Museum in Glen Rose Tx) has an intriguing theory on the mechanics of the firmament and how it protected those on pre-flood planet Earth – see his ABSTRACT in this link.  In essence, it filtered out the hazardous radiation while allowing beneficial radiation to penetrate – Yes, there is beneficial radiation.

Additionally, in God’s wisdom, He created the earth with a magnetic field which protects us from the worst of the solar radiation and an atmosphere which aids in filtering our cosmic radiation.  The Earth is the only planet in our solar system with a magnetic core and powerful magnetic field.  Also, The slow speed solar winds act as a hinderance to the high speed radiation produced by solar eruptions.  The solar winds act like a traffic jam on a high speed interstate, reducing the speed of the particles flung out by solar flairs.

One more thing:  There is so much cosmic radiation (energy) that after the collapse of the canopy (firmament), God stretched out the heavens – moving the radiation sources further away from the Earth (Isaiah 45:12; Jeremiah 10:12; 51:15).

After the canopy’s collapse, the lifespan of man and beast dropped dramatically.  Noah and his families were the last of the near millennials.  Methuselah lived 969 years.  Noah lived 950 years, protected form the solar and cosmic radiation.  Because of mankind’s wickedness, God removed the protection of the firmament.

  • “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. “And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.” (Genesis 6:11-13)

However, God promised:

  • “And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” (Genesis 8:21-22)

Can you imagine the inhumanity if despots lived for hundreds of years?  What sounds to us as a curse, is actually a blessing.  Regrettably, evil is in the hearts of men.  What does God asks of us?

  • He has showed you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)

It isn’t as if God doesn’t participate – as the expression goes, He too, “has skin in the game.” And a serious skin at that – His own Son.

  • For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believes on him is not condemned: but he that believes not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (John 3:16-18)

John reminds us,

  • “The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love . . . God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” (1 John 4:8, 16)

If you haven’t already, come to Christ while there is still time. The clock is ticking.
