Nephilim! Those of whom legends were made.
“And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose (lusted after).
3And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be a hundred and twenty years (the time God allotted Noah to teach the Gospel and to build the Ark).
4There were giants (Nephilim) in the earth in those days; and also after that (Numbers 13:33), when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore children to them, the same became mighty men (Tyrants) which were of old, men of renown (exalted reputations).” (Genesis 6:1-4).
“5And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.”
- The reason God destroyed the earth is revealed in verse 5. It was simply that humankind was hopelessly wicked. It was not because of the Nephilim, as there were also on the earth even after the flood – the sons of Anak were Nephilim, Numbers 13:33.
- The only survivors of the deluge were Noah and his family. All mankind upon the earth today are their descendants.
- “In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark . . .And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man” (Genesis 7:13, 21)
All people on the earth after the flood are descendants from genetics of the eight people on the Ark, including both Nephilim and Rephaim. Genetically, that is how they came to be in both Genesis 6 and then again after the flood. It wasn’t a resurgence of “fallen angels” again attempting to undermine the power and authority of creation God, as some insist.
The Hebrew word for man is Adam, which is derived from a word meaning “to be red,” because man was formed by God from the red earth. Eaton’s Bible Dictionary says that it is also the generic name of the human race. Its equivalent in Latin is homo and in Greek anthropos. The term “giants” in Genesis 6:4 is “Nephilim.” According to Webster’s 1829 Dictionary, the meaning is: “. . . probably from the earth. The word originally signified earth-born, terrigena. The ancients believed the first inhabitants of the earth to be produced from the ground and to be of enormous size.”
That last sentence is especially important to our investigation. The ancients believed that the “giants” were terrestrial, earthlings, and not hybrid beings (and certainly not ET’s). Strong’s defines Nephilim as Violent, tyrant (Bully), mighty.
Jesus Christ confirms the authenticity of Genesis when He cited Moses as the one who penned the Pentateuch of which Genesis is the first of the five books, (Lk 24:27,40). Nowhere in Genesis is it implied that “fallen angels” had sexual relations with humans. If Nephilim were the progeny of “fallen angels,” certainly they would have realized that God had commanded Noah. Wouldn’t they have been cunning enough to either build their own boats or commandeer Noah’s? (That heretical Hollywood movie had the Nephilim helping Noah build the Ark – to their own destruction. Think about that).
A failure to properly recognizing the antecedents in Jude and 2 Peter, and a convenient misunderstanding of the term “sons of God,” has led to considerable confusion on this point.
The word “giant” or “giants” appears in King James twenty times from Genesis 6 to 1Cronicles 20. Only three times is it the Hebrew word Nephilim. One time in Genesis 6:4. Then twice in Numbers 13:33 where Moses sent out one man from each of Israel’s twelve tribes to spy out the land of Canaan, the land God had given to them. Ten of the men were terrified of the giants which lived in the land and called them Nephilim. But there is no evidence in the record that they were anything other than Rephaim – giants.
Other than these three references to Nephilim, every other time “giants” is used it is a translation of the Hebrew word Rephaim. Interestingly, the Rephaim are the true giants – Like Goliath. Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Commentary says, “In earlier times the Rephaim were a numerous race, inhabiting the regions east of Jordan and various parts in the south of Palestine; but in David’s time only a few individuals of that description remained, and these were found among the Philistines.”
A key to our understanding is in the definitions. The Nephilim were violent, tyrants, bullies. It is believed that these tyrants account for the legends of the heathen deities. On the other hand, Rephaim are simply giants. True, that is bad enough in itself. They certainly made frighteningly fierce warriors. Scripture records that one of their spears was three hundred shekels of bronze in weight (about 80 pounds) and whose spear shaft was like a weaver’s beam. (2Samuel 21:16). That is half the weight of Goliath’s which was six hundred shekels of iron.
According to the Bible, there were giants living upon the earth. They were people, bad or good. They were not hybrid beings – which God does not allow.
Exploring Scripture~because it matters-it really does!
Hell – Hades – Abyss
It is clear in Scripture that there were races of giants throughout the land. That necessarily means men, women, and children. Here are several references to giants, the lands and the people: Nu 13:33; De 2:11,20; De 3:11,13; Jos 12:4; Jos 13:12; Jos 15:8; Jos 17:15; Jos 18:16
If the Nephilim were offspring of fallen angels, and God cast those angels into tartaroo (2Peter 2:4), and destroyed their hybrid offspring in the deluge, then how could Nephilim reappear after the flood – unless, of course, Nephilim are in truth and fact only genetic human beings and not angelic offspring after all?
Only God can create life, not angels. Human spermatozoa are living and contains both x and y chromosomes. Although the Bible doesn’t specifically mention female “giants,” it is apparent they also existed or the Rephaim would not have had mates and would not have reproduced, which the Bible clearly says they did – Goliath had a brother.
Acts 17:26 “And hath made of one blood all of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation.”
All MEN! That clearly means there are NO hybrids. Black, white, red, yellow, brown, ALL MEN are of the same blood. Different genetic characteristics, but we are all of the same blood. There is NO fallen angel DNA in anyone’s veins.
Speaking of the saints, Matthew 22:30 “For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven.” Angels cannot reproduce. They were created in a finite number. They are “non-sexual” beings, neither male nor female. They may lust for power, dominance, position, but they do not and cannot lust for sexual gratification.
IN ANSWER TO A QUESTION: There are women caught up in the occult who claim they have had sex with demons and even been raped by them. If demons can get into a person’s mind, there is no reason not to believe that the demon can create fantasies, illusions, and delusions in that person’s head, causing them to believe a whole host of untruths.
Nowhere in the King James can you find the word “demon.” The word is always devil or devils.
- Genesis 1; 6; 7,All creatures that can reproduce do so after their own “Kind.” Only man was created in the image of God. A blending of man and fallen angels is first, impossible, and second, angels are non-sexual and have no offspring.
- Fallen angels, unafraid in their initial disobedience, would not feel constrained to marry. They would simply take whatever and whomever they pleased.
- Fallen angels are vile, lead into every perversion. Their pleasure is our disobedience to God and our estrangement from Him. They are not interested in satisfying their (non-existing) sexual desire.
Ephesians 1:13-14, “. . . you were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, Who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.”
